Who Wants To Save Money On Oil Changes?

 Powered by Max Banner Ads
by Dirk Gibson

Your car is an amazing collection of working parts. From the simple Model T to the computer controlled modern car, there have always been two enemies of engines. They are heat and friction.

As any car owner well knows, lubricant is the best tool for fighting the ravages of friction and heat. This lubricant is, of course, better known as motor oil and it performs a vital function that keeps your car on the road.

Oil will only perform for so long under the stressful conditions found in the engine of a modern car. This leads us to the question of how often you should change the oil in your car.

What answer immediately popped into your mind? I bet it was that the oil should be changed every three months or 3,000 miles, whichever came first. Right? Somewhere, an oil marketing executive has a big grin on their face.

As with many things we know, the 3 and 3 rule is wrong. It is just marketing with no basis in fact. Every car performs differently and does different tasks. This means there is a different guidelines for each of them.

The simple truth is there is no one standard mileage or time period that should be used for oil changes. A big Ford truck simple runs differently than a Honda Civic. The oil in the truck will need to be changed well before the oil in the Honda.

Still, we need some type of guideline right? Well, you have one. For men, this will be painful. Yes, we will have to read directions. In the owners manual for the car, we can find the information for the specific needs of our vehicle.

You can expect to find a recommendation regarding the miles and time period for the oil change in the manual. There should also be a recommendation on the weight of oil and specific oil brand that should be used.

Now pay attention. The miles and brand of oil are important, but the information on the weight of oil to be used is absolutely critical. You can get the miles and brand wrong, but do not get the weight wrong under any circumstances.

This also brings us to the issue surrounding the types of oil you can buy. Synthetic oils are all the rage and for a good reason - the work! Depending on the vehicle, they can last 15,000 miles or more between changes.

I personally use Mobil 1 oil for my vehicles. I have minimal engine problems. We recently broke down the motor of a friend who used Mobil 1 for 125,000 miles in a BMW and found the engine to be in great shape.

Ultimately, you should follow the directions of your manufacturer on oil changes. They typically will be for 5,000 miles or more, which can save you a lot of money.

Automatic Car Alarms: Don’t Be A Victim Of Car Theft

by Brad Seabourne

An audible car security system that sounds when it notices a possible break-in is a car alarm. These car alarms can make a noisy disturbance which can be very annoying and a lot of the time is ignored. There are a lot more technologically sophisticated vehicle security systems that are available.

Manufacturers have designed cutting edge technology to help reduce the billions of dollars of car theft reported annually. Using two-way communication devices, car security systems can alert you when your car's engine has been started. Some newer systems have sensors to detect glass breakage. Others can be activated remotely and can even arm themselves passively, without the owner needing to remember to set the alarm.

You won't hear an audible car alarm if you're not near your vehicle. If your car is stolen while you're on vacation, it may be many days before you know about it. Some car security systems will phone you or send you a text message if a break in occurs. A two-stage automatic car alarm can also tell you if the car's engine is running, if the car is in motion, or if the car is stationary and has just been bumped into by someone.

While the vehicle is moving you can use the automatic car alarm to turn off the fuel pump, this is an effective way of bringing the vehicle to a stop. However, if your car is on a tow truck this won't make any difference in stopping the theft from occurring. Many of today's new vehicles also come with GPS tracking, which allows you to know where the vehicle is at all times.

Preventing Car Jacking: Several models of vehicle security systems are now equipped with car jacking preventative mechanisms. These mechanisms allow you to turn off the supply of gas to the vehicle with the press of a button. Having this safety feature gives you options you would not otherwise have. The feature is generally activated by a switch that is near the seat belt release; when activated it shuts off the fuel supply and applies the brakes to stop the car. This features gives a person a good chance of preventing their car from being hijacked.

Frequently, these systems will alert the authorities in case of a car jacking. The majority of these systems are meant to notify the police in an expedient manner which is immeasurably important in emergency situations. Trying to catch a car thief who is attempting to steal your vehicle is quite dangerous. Your automatic car alarm will inform you via a phone call or a text message when something is amiss. You can then call the authorities and let them handle the situation, rather than putting yourself at risk.

What You Need To Know When Buying an Used Golf Cart

In reality, few people who really have a good cause for purchasing an used golf cart for their own personal employment. In any case, if you are considering of buying one, there are a few things which you should to bear in mind. Of course, purchasing an used golf cart will allow you to save a lot of cash, but you should know what you are looking at when you look to buy a golfcart in order to ensure that you get a good deal, preferably than waste your money on something that does you no good.

Your first step if you want to look into buying one for your own personal use at a course is to find out if the course even permits you to use a cart on the golf course. Some courses do not allow any type of cart, all the same, the main reason you may want to purchase an used golf cart is if you live on a course and would rather ride this to the clubhouse than your actual car. With the increasing expenses for gasoline alone, this can be a huge savings over several years and more than pay for the expense of the golf cart itself. Even then it makes sense to check with your neck of the woods whether they would allow you to drive this and the golf course whether they allow this cart to be used.

Once your study is complete, consider the following points. Think about investing in a golf cart which is electronically operated as it makes more sense in the long haul. Not only are you not having to purchase gasoline continuously but there are typically fewer parts that may need to be repaired as well. This will make the upkeep expenses much less expensive as well which will allow you to get further usage before it needs to be replaced or repaired.

The first things you should look for models with new batteries and electric battery connectors when you are contemplating a purchase. Carefully examine the condition of battery charger and connections when you look around. Naturally, they should have a clean appearance and in working order. Never purchase a cart that is not working with the hopes that you can fix it cheaply. With the non-stop fixing work which you have to do, this might become a horrible experience in the long term. If it does not function correctly at the time of buy, you should simply move on.

You want to also ensure that you can take it for a test drive so if you are not able to take the cart for a test drive, you should walk away. During the test test drive have a look at whether the cart stops within a space of 10 to 15 feet without sliding. Golf courses are not going to like you bringing a cart to the green that can cause damage of any sort. You also want to have a look at the steering and make sure that the cart turns properly and your final check should be looking at all of the wheels to ensure that they are in good shape. With a careful study and knowing what you are looking for you can save as much as seventy five percent off the price of a new golf cart by buying a used model.

Uninsured Motorist Auto Insurance Provides Protection

by Dan Carter

Every state requires drivers to carry some kind of auto insurance, with the minimum required amount determined by each individual state. However, there are many drivers out there who carry no insurance at all. Many states recognize this and require drivers to buy uninsured motorist insurance as well.

Uninsured motorists are ten times more likely to drink and drive and three times more likely to be convicted of negligent driving. About 15 percent of drivers do not carry insurance. So it's not surprising that, one in ten of all drivers have been involved in accidents with uninsured drivers. So what should you do if this happens to you and what can you do to protect yourself?

When the accident happens, you will not know if that other driver has insurance or not, so you must react normally. Take notes on the other car's model, make, registration number, and license. Also, note the driver's name and address- even though he might not give you all the right details.

Also note the damage to the other car and the accident scene. Remember to record road signs and markings, light and weather conditions and whether the other car had its lights on. The more detail you can record, the better. If you are fortunate enough to have an independent witness get their full contact details. And if you also happen to have a camera with you, take lots of pictures (try to get one with the other driver clearly in the picture). The police might have use for that one!

Comprehensive auto insurance will provide the protection of your insurer to pay for your car repair, minus the deductible. However, if your claim is as a result of damage caused by a uninsured or underinsured motorist, you might be able to have that repair deductible waived by your insurance company. Regardless of the scenario, however, you might lose your no claims discount.

Drivers that have their cars insured may carry just the minimum legal limit and this may be less than what is necessary to cover any damages in an accident which is their responsibility. Unless you have underinsured motorist insurance, in incidents where the at-fault driver cannot cover the left over expenses out of pocket, these expenses could be left with you.

The most advantageous approach is to drive defensively, always wear a seatbelt, and to purchase uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage with your vehicle insurance policy.

Discount Auto Insurance Program - Based On Driving Factors

by Joseph Welusz

You can now get discount auto insurance based on the total amount of miles you drive. It is starting to spread across the country. This underlying thought has been around for a for a long while but now insurance carriers are beginning to initiate the discount auto insurance program. The next opportunity you get to get auto insurance quotes see if it is available.

First offered on the west coast as a pilot discount auto insurance program and has recently been approved for New Jersey through Progressive insurance. To my knowledge only one other company offers auto insurance quotes this way; GMAC Insurance who's program is only available to people that have Onstar in there vehicles.

Progressive insurance will attach a devise to you car to monitor the speed at which you drive, your breaking habits and mileage totals. GMAC's Onstar includes GPS tracking devise but I'm not aware of how they calculate your driving habits. This causes concerns to many people.

Some non-profit organizations and government officials are concerned about the tracking measure that will be used. Some feel by adding one of these devises to your car you could be giving up some constitutional freedoms. Another concern is that all people will not be able to benefit from this program. Like people that live in rural areas need to drive further than the average city dweller.

The discount on your auto insurance could be as much as 9% over people that don't participate in the program. My concern is how much can your premium be increased if your driving habits to fit what the insurance company has set as normal. Also how does the insurance company determine what is the correct breaking pressure?

A concern of mine is if this program is picked by all the main insurance carriers in the future if you don't part take in the program will your premiums automatically increase. I understand the insurance company's point of view of offering lower rates to more responsible drivers that do not drive that far but years down the road how will this affect all of us?

This program was released in New Jersey on August 8th of 2008. Let's see how long it will take to be available in all states. It will also be interesting to see what other insurance companies adopt a similar program.

I believe it should be your decision to make if you want to participate in the discount auto insurance program like this. You know how you drive and how far you drive. I am totally open to the concept but I am a little weary about how they might track my driving habits and what they are compared too.

Camper Van Extras

by John Douglas

Camper vans have many optional extras and facilities and most first time buyers, do not have all the information to make an informed choice over which van to choose. A lot of people will be taken in by the styling of a camper and will pay little attention to the actual facilities. Most campers have basic facilities as standard, enough to just about cover a few nights away. Optional extras can though, make a big difference to your comfort levels.

Several factors should also be taken into consideration, like your current family size and what it may become in the future, as well as the kind of trips you plan to take, the insurance and so on. It also depends on whether you buy a new vehicle or a second hand camper van.

I would like to mention a few of the available optional extras that you may like to consider with a new or even used RV. No matter what you decide now, you can always add extras as you find the need, but it will probably cost you more. Take some time to pick out the right ones now and you can start out with the maximum comfort.

Campers often have plenty of seating, some for up to eight people, but may only sleep four or five at the most. This is often made up of two adults and two children or sometimes three young children. A camper should be spacious enough in the day time so as to allow ease of movement for all the family. At night, space is often at a premium due to the nature of bed arrangements. Generally even the cheapest will have some daytime space, the expense is often down to how much space is required at night. Try to find the right mix for your budget.

The living area, including the kitchen are where you will find the most optional extras. As this is the main family working and resting area, comfort and ease of use are prime considerations. Everything from televisions, to microwaves, air conditioning, cookers and expensive music sound systems can be installed customized to your exact needs. Seating areas can be covered in fabric or luxurious leather, floors can be carpeted or tiled. You can even opt for solar panels to save on battery power. Sticking to your budget in the living areas will probably be the hardest of all, just think about how much of your time will be spent in the van.

A high quality comfortable leather drivers seat is desirable for those long road trips. In truth most campers have comfortable driver seats, but if you intend to buy one, leather will offer you the most durability. You can never have enough storage and optional extra storage compartments are well worth the added investment. Some storage compartments come with liquid coolers and some are even built into the floor.

Motorhomes and camper vans with simple designs allow you to concentrate on what many owners feel is the most important consideration, that of space. A great exterior will never make up for poor interior planning. Older vans rarely have the flushing toilets and shower facilities you find on the latest models. So you may wish to consider the cost of upgrading a used model to include these essentials. Do not though fill up your recently acquired camper or motorhome with so many extras, that you have no space left for comfortable movement inside.

New Car versus Used Car

by Eric Jilson

This situation probably has happened to everyone: You’re driving along the road and you notice that your car doesn’t sound all that good. Before you realize what’s happening, your poor car takes its last gasps on the side of the road. You need a new car.

Television ads tell you that you need a new car. Although a new car does sound appealing, you’ve also heard from friends that buying a new car is a better idea in the long run. You’re faced with a tough decision. This article will look at the positives and negatives of buying new and used vehicles. This will help you pick the vehicle that’s meant to be yours.

The Glory of New

There’s something powerful about the looks of a brand-new car, all the way from the tantalizing smell to that shiny new paint. In this consumer culture, a new car is a symbol that tells everyone you have made it. There also are other benefits to buying a new car rather than a used car.

Positives:

Most new cars do have good reliability. The warranty also will likely cover any problems that do crop up. Buying a new vehicle also means that you shouldn’t have to worry much about how the vehicle was treated before it became yours.

A number of companies also have roadside assistance for new cars. This gives you peace of mind and can save you the expense of getting a roadside assistance program on your own.

New cars also usually have the highest fuel-efficiency standards and the newest safety features, like side-curtain airbags. You may also find a good financing program with either no interest or low interest rates. This can make it less expensive to buy a new car than it is to buy a used car.

Negatives:

Without a doubt, buying a new car is expensive. Most new cars cost more than used cars, and they depreciate very quickly in value. A new car loses the most value during the first few years that someone owns it.

The difference between what you paid for your car and what it is now worth can be substantial. According to the Kelley Blue Book, the MSRP (manufacturer’s suggested retail price) for a 2007 Ford Focus two-door hatchback is $14,335. The resale value for the same car is $11,995. The value has dropped about $2,300 just for driving the car off the lot.

Buying a new car therefore means that you are getting more debt and losing value more quickly than if you had bought a used car. You’ll also be paying more for car insurance than you would if you had bought a used vehicle.

There are also issues to think about on a deeper level. Buying a new car can contribute to the culture of consumption and not the culture of frugality. If you buy a new car, some would argue that you are buying into the consumerism culture. This can be an expensive proposition.

New cars also don’t stay new for very long. You eventually will find your first nick or scratch. Eventually, the floor will be stained, the doors will have dings, and you won’t have the thrill of having a new car. Your monthly payments will last much longer than your shiny new car.

A Humble Used Car

Although “pre-owned vehicles” - what the car dealers like to call a used car - don’t have the mystique and “shiny” factor of a new car, they are hard to top as a practical financial move. Buying a late model car with few miles can be a bargain seeker’s dream.

Positives:

Buying a used car helps you get the most amount of car at the lowest cost. A late-model used car often costs less than half the cost of a new car. Some dealers’ pre-certified programs come with good warranties. They often include the balance of the factory warranty and the opportunity to buy an extended warranty. Low-mileage, late-model used cars are almost new. You probably don’t notice the difference between a used and a new vehicle if you trade in your car every few years. Most modern cars can go 100,000 or more with few problems. You could probably get 60,000 more miles on a car with 40,000.

You can also buy a used car for only a few thousand dollars if you don’t have much cash and are willing to take a chance on a used car. Buying a car that needs a little tender loving care can cut the amount of money you need to spend on your “new” car.

Negatives:

Some used cars still have the stigma of being unreliable. There may always be a fear of buying someone else's problem because you don’t know how its last owner treated the car, or why the last owner traded the car into the dealer. Even if the car is fine, you still need to perform maintenance sooner than you would on a new car. That maintenance will include radiator and transmission flushes, new tires, and new brakes.

It also may be difficult to find a used vehicle with the features you want. You also will have fewer options if you buy a lemon. Lemon laws usually only apply to vehicles under a certain age.

New or Used?

You should make your decision to buy a new or used vehicle based on many factors. You should be comfortable with your various financing options, as well as any long-term consequences. You need to feel safe and buy a vehicle that is reliable for your needs and meets your monthly expense budget. Your “new” car also needs to meet your requirements for amenities and features.

Car Accident Injury Claims - What You Need to Know

Make sure you have the most coverage for the least cost in car insurance.

by David Halbert

While you are on the road, you can never be sure everything will go as planned. Road accidents come when you least expect them. The effects of road accidents can also range from mild to disastrous. In the UK alone, car accidents claim many lives and affect thousands of people each year. What most people do not know is that they can make personal injury claims for car accidents. There have been many instances of road accidents that go unreported or unclaimed. Many simply let it pass without knowing of the possible claims that they could have made.

Personal injury can be classified under any kind of mental and physical injury caused by an accident. One of the common personal injuries usually sustained during road accidents is whiplash. Whiplash is the neck pain acquired following an injury. It usually damages the soft tissues of the neck including the ligaments, tendons and muscles. During an accident, the neck is very prone to damage thus causing whiplash and other more serious medical conditions. Sustaining any kind of personal injury such as whiplash can also really be painful. In most cases, such conditions also adversely affect one's ability to work, personal routine and lifestyle. In extreme cases, some may even suffer from permanent disability.

When whiplash or other serious injury is sustained from road accidents, accident compensation claims can be made. The first thing to be done is to report it to local authorities. Reports and claims can be made stronger if there are details and supporting documents which can be provided. If the road accident occurred in the past, the law allows the filing of car accident claims up to three years after the incident took place.

In filing a car accident claim, professional handling from a solicitor can be a great help. Personal injury claims solicitors can expertly present the claims and negotiate demands. In filing such personal injury or accident claim cases, information about the persons involved such as full names, car registration, medical reports, medical and hospital bills, and even photographs, can help win the case and the demanded compensation. In looking for a personal injury solicitor, one must consider to look for those with in-depth experience in handling and winning such cases. These information and documents are needed to provide support for these claims. The reputation of the solicitor and his company also matter especially in making the negotiations. In handling car accident claims, there are claims companies who operate using the "no win, no fee" service. This concept simply means that the claimant need not pay if the case is not won. This kind of deal between the solicitor and the claimant ensures protection and maximum advantage for the claimant.

A road accident injury claim can be compensated between 1000 to 25,000 pounds. The exact amount, however, depends on the extent of the injury, the duration of pain or disability, recovery period was, and the expenses incurred during the recovery period. The general effects of an injury to the claimant's life are also considered.

Claiming for compensation in any personal injury case is seen as a civil right of all citizens. Car accident claims are fully recognized by law. Many solicitors are willing to handle such cases and assist claimants to get the rightful compensation for their injuries.

Booking Car Rental Online

by Dane Masters

The increase in business travel and the need for short-term transportation for family trips has made the use of the Internet for booking car rentals an important aspect of travel planning. Companies like Hertz and Enterprise have extensive car rental booking sections on their web sites, allowing consumers to book most types of cars for a relatively low price up to a day in advance. However, there are a few important tips for those who are new to booking car rentals online to remember before diving in.

One important consideration in booking car rentals online is that the rental price, typically in daily price format, is only one cost of renting the car. There is the usual cost of driving a car, with the bulk of that cost coming in the form of gasoline.

Also, unless you have a certain amount of car insurance, it is best to inquire about temporary auto insurance during the car rental booking process. Depending on which state the car is rented, there are local and state taxes on top of the smaller fees associated with booking a car rental online. Realizing that the price quoted when booking a car rental online is not the final price may save some sticker shock in the end.

Another factor to consider is your requirement for a particular vehicle type. You can rent out all sorts of vehicles right from the affordable budget cars, to extravagantly expensive sedans. This depends on the occasion, number of people and your budget as well.

A good approach to decide upon the vehicle type is to go for a type which is just higher to the car type that is suitable for your purpose. This way you have a large enough buffer space to accommodate extras just in case. For example, if it's a standard sized car that you need, it is preferable to choose a slightly higher full sized car.
